Professor Joost PH Drenth, gastroenterologist from the Radboudumc, Nijmegen, The Netherlands, has been awarded with the prestigious "EASL Registry Grant Award". This award (50000 Euro) was presented to him and his research team on behalf of the European Association for the Study of the Liver at the annual conference in London. Prof . Drenth received this award on April 12 amidst 10,800 conference attendees.
The award will be spent on a specific registry for patients with polycystic liver disease. Polycystic liver disease is a rare inherited disorder that causes enlargement of the liver due to presence of fluid-filled cysts. Patients may have many abdominal symptoms and a reduced quality of life. Untreated polycystic liver disease may lead to a liver transplantation. The aim of the research is to map which patients will develop more severe disease course.
